Japan47 — map your travels across Japan

Select a prefecture on the map, then add the stamp that best describes your experience. There are five types of travel entry:

• Passing through
• Short visit
• Full day
• Overnight
• Lived here

You can add an optional date, place, and private note. Choose a place from the built-in catalogue or enter its name yourself when it is not listed.

Ranks cannot be chosen manually. Japan47 derives them only from travel history. Weaker categories are not converted into hidden points and added together; the highest completed threshold wins.

• 1★Any number of transit entries through a prefecture.
• 2–3★1–3 separate short visits give 2★; 4 or more give 3★.
• 3–4★1–3 active days give 3★; 4 or more give 4★.
• 4–5★1–4 separate meaningful overnight trips give 4★; 5 or more give 5★. Trips are counted, not hotel nights.
• 5★One genuine period of local life, study, or work.

The ranks of all 47 prefectures form a total score from 0 to 235.

Trips, dates, places, and notes are stored in the browser on this device. Japan47 has no accounts and no server synchronisation for personal travel history.

Clearing browser data or moving to another browser or device will not transfer the history automatically. When needed, save a copy from “My travel history” and restore it there later.

A share link contains only the display language and the final rank of each of the 47 prefectures. The total score and visited count are calculated from those ranks on the recipient’s device.

Dates, places, notes, trip counts, and individual entries are not included in a shared map.

Sending a full travel-history file is a separate action that the user starts explicitly. It is not the same as sharing a map.
